Microsoft begins $1 billion Windows 8 campaign with first ‘Surface’ ad

Microsoft begins $1 billion Windows 8 campaign with first ‘Surface’ adOn Sunday, Microsoft reportedly commenced its massive $1 billion advertisement campaign for its forthcoming Windows 8 OS - which is scheduled for launch on October 26 -, with the first commercial for the company's own-branded `Surface' tablet.

The Surface commercial, which was first spotted by The Verge, appears to be more like an introduction - mostly a teaser - to Microsoft's Windows 8-based tablet, with the company apparently attempting to publicize to the customers the fact that it is making its foray into the hardware arena.

In the newly-released Surface ad, the first ever for the tablet, Microsoft has chiefly drawn attention to the `clicking' noise which results from the users' attachment of the magnetic keyboard-cum-cover of the device; and the soft snapping sound which is audible when the users open and close the tablet's kickstand.

The commercial for Surface has a drum-break like thump of the clicking and snapping sounds gradually building up vehemently, when a group of dancers featuring in the ad shown to be manipulating the tablet to create the `clip' and `snap' sounds.

Despite the fact that the Microsoft Surface tablet boasts an exhaustive list of impressive specifications, the commercial does not reveal much about the specs-sheet of the tablet. Moreover, there is hardly any focus of the ARM-based Windows RT version of Microsoft's new OS which powers the Surface; though the ad does give a brief peek at the homescreen and some live tiles!
