Maruti 800 on the verge of extinction

Maruti 800 on the verge of extinction From 2010 onwards all car makers will have to follow the obligatory Euro IV norms and it will definitely affect the production of Maruti Suzuki 800, since it is still not Euro IV compliant. What is even more disappointing is that the company may not be able to launch the Euro-IV compliant version of the model, which might mean that India's most beloved car might be extinct. Maruti 800 has also been the most successful model for the company itself.

For the past few years, the sales of Maruti 800 have declined. It has been learnt from some sources close to the developments, that there are certain issues in launching an updated model of the M800. Consumers have now started going for Maruti Alto and similar cars. In spite of all this, Maruti is still determined to launch at least 7000 units annually.

Presently, the company is finding it quite hard to save Maruti 800 from extinction due to the uncertainty to meet the required pollution norms in the fixed time period. However, in case the company succeeds in doing so, then Maruti 800, just with minor reduction in its price, can be a big competition to Tata Nano.
