Marijuana legalization debate heats up in Texas

The blazing topic ‘whether marijuana should be legalized in Texas or not’ has been triggering a controversy in Texas. The matter has given rise to an ongoing debate between supporters and those who oppose regulation of marijuana.

Many people believe that marijuana should be legalized. Marijuana has been legalized in 23 states over last few years. However, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, and Alaska are some of the states that have made pot legalized for both medicinal and recreational usage.

So, the question is why Texas hasn’t done more than the Texas Compassionate Use Act? Texas is among those US states that have a flourishing economy. One of the key reasons why people visit Texas is because of its economic growth. If marijuana gets approval in the state, the chances of economic growth could improve further.

Colorado made marijuana legal in 2014, and last year, the state earned nearby $1 billion in sales, as per a report published on cannabist.com. The state had a collection of over $135 million in taxes and fees, and devoted over $35 million of that to school construction projects.

If Texas is kept aside for a minute, it is found that weed is legal in entire 50 states, at least for medicinal purposes. If marijuana is legalized in Texas, it could offer boost to economy which has been under distress due to closure of some oil rigs in the state.

Marijuana has been proved medically useful. It has been scientifically proven that cannabis help in cases of seizures and glaucoma. Cannabis is also used to treat various kinds of muscle pain and spasms.

Thus, there shouldn’t be a ban on something that could potentially be useful. In case a small state like Colorado can make nearly a billion dollars in sales, what the profits would be if Texas legalizes it for more than only for epilepsy treatment.
