Maoist, UML agree to enter a new understanding with Nepali Congress
Kathmandu, Dec 26 : The CPN (Maoist) and the CPN-UML has agreed to enter into a new understanding with the Nepali Congress (NC) so as to take the peace process to a logical conclusion.
During a meeting between top leaders of the parties here on Thursday, Chairman of the Maoist party and Prime Minister Prachanda said that the major parties must forge consensus afresh since the 12-point agreement of November2005 cannot be the basis for a way forward in the political context arising after the Constituent Assembly elections.
Maoist spokesperson Dinanath Sharma said in a statement, "The Prime Minister stressed the need for unity among parties at a time when the political situation is complex. Political parties in the government are acting like the opposition. This attitude has given rise to an unfavourable situation.
The Maoist spokesperson said his party was ready to include two members from each of the four major parties and give full shape to the Army Integration Special Committee (AISC).
"Both the party have decided to organise a meeting of their respective leaders on Sunday for increased understanding between the two parties," He added.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, UML General Secretary Jhalanath Khanal said, "We have agreed to build a new understanding with the NC and other progressive parties in the changed context."
"Taking the peace process to a logical conclusion, drafting of the constitution on time, restructuring of the state and socioeconomic transformation would be the base for the new understanding with Nepali Congress," he added
It may be noted that the widening rift between the Nepali Congress, and the Maoist has come in the way of smooth functioning of the Legislature-Parliament, Kantipur reported. (ANI)
