Manpreet crashes out of WBC
India's Manpreet Singh failed to match the brilliant performance of European champion Oleksander Usyk of Ukraine as he lost his first bout in heavy weight (91kg) of the World Boxing Championships in Milan, Italy.
Manpreet was thumped by Ukrainian Boxer 2-16 in the second round match as he had got bye in the first round. The Indian boxer was looking helpless against the punches of Usyk. Usyk dominated throughout the match.
Manpreet ended first round with a score of 1-3 and he failed to recover from the bad start in the whole match. Usyk enhanced his lead to 5-2 in the second round and he blanked out Indian boxer 8-0 in the final round to win the match.
In another match, Vitalijus Subacius of Lithuania outplayed Dzhakhon Kurbanov of Tajikistan. Kurbanov was leading by 15-10 when referee declared Subacius winner of the match.
Chairman of the Jury and AIBA Referees and Judges Commission Chairman Terry Smith admitted that the decision of stoping match was taken after the ring doctor signaled to referee to stop the match after 8 minutes and 59 seconds as Kurbanov was unable to defend himself due to tiredness.
