Mango crop in Lucknow damaged by thunderstorm
Malihabad (Uttar Pradesh), May 16 : The high velocity thunderstorm that ripped across Uttar Pradesh killing about 90 people also ravaged the famous mango belt of Lucknow.
On Wednesday, a powerful squall followed by rain and thunderstorms hit entire northern India uprooting trees apart from causing human loss and damage to property and crops.
The farmers, who were expecting a good crop this year, are now counting their losses.
“We were anticipating that only some of the crop would be damaged due to the storm. But, we found that all that had got destroyed. This year, we had a good quality crop as compared to last four to five years. But, then, it is all the wish of almighty. We are in great loss," said Suresh Awasthi , a mango grower.
"The entire region has suffered losses to the tune of millions of rupees. We have suffered a loss of over 25 per cent," said Rajaram, another mango grower.
It is not only the farmers, but also the mango lovers in the region who feel cheated. They lament that the summer season this year would be sans mangoes and mango made dishes. (ANI)
