Mahindra bids adieu to its football club

Mahindra-UnitedWhile experts were claiming that the Indian football may see a new ray of hope of growth in times to come, it has got one of biggest blow in the history of the game. Notably, Mahindra United, one of the country's top clubs, will not be featured in the highly competitive football next season onwards.

In fact, it is believed that the company has decided to channel its resources to a nation wide school-level initiative instead of the football tournament. It may be noted here that around two weeks back, the company decided to back an initiative by NBA to promote basketball in the country.

While some media reports earlier claimed of some problems fuming at Mahindra United, the decision has cleared dew drops from the aquarium in no time. Club chairman Alan Durante has recently said that the company feels that there is shortage of talent at the school level and hence there is stagnancy at the top level.

Durante also mentioned the fact that exiting the arena was a difficult and painful move. However, he ruled out the option of feasibility as one of the reason for pulling off the plug.
