Lin wins third successive title

Lin Dan Lin Dan of China has won the title of men's singles at the BWF World Badminton Championships for third consecutive time after defeating his compatriot Chen Lin in the final at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium, Hyderabad on Sunday. Now, Dan holds both Olympic and World title and he is only second player in the history of badminton to achieve this milestone

The fifth seeded Lin was looking in ominous flow as he raced away with the match in just 45 minutes. Lin ousted Chen in straight sets 21-18, 21-16 to set up a new record by winning the title three times in a row as he had also won this title in 2006 and 2007. In 2008, the tournament was cancelled due to clash with the Beijing Olympics.

The seventh-seeded Chinese Lan Lu clinched the women's singles title as she ousted two-time world champion Xie Xingfang in straight sets 23-21, 21-12 in 38 minutes. In women's doubles Zhang Yawen and Zhao Tingting duo of China defeated the second seeded Chinese pair of Cheng Shu and Zhao Yunlei 17-21, 21-17, 21-16.

The men's doubles title also went to another Chinese pair of Cai Yun and Hu Haifeng. Yun-Hu duo defeated Jung Jae Sung and Lee Yong Dae of Korea 21-18, 16-21, 28-26 in the final.
