LG releases new Android-based handset - Optimus L9South Korea-based fifth-ranking handset manufacturer by shipments, LG Electronics, has recently released its new Android-based handset - the Optimus L9, which the company had demonstrated at the MobileCon 2012 event.

The new Optimus L9, for which LG had joined forces with T-Mobile to cater to the US markets, is the top-tier handset in the L-series lineup; and is equipped with a 1GHz dual-core CPU as well as 4G capabilities.

Fairly akin to the LG Optimus L7 and Optimus L5 in build and featuring a slightly-textured back plate made of matte plastic, the new Optimus L9 has a 4.5-inch qHD Corning Gorilla Glass 2 screen; 1GB of RAM; 4GB onboard storage capacity; a 2,150mAh battery; a 5-megapixel back camera; and a VGA front-facing camera.

Running the Android OS 4.0 `Ice Cream Sandwich' version, the LG Optimus L9 also boasts what LG describes as the `QTranslator' advantage, with the mentioned feature capable of identifying 44 languages. In addition, the `QTranslator' can also automatically translate words and phrases into as many as 64 different languages when the users' cameras are placed on them.

Though the pricing-related details for the Optimus L9 have neither been disclosed by LG or T-Mobile, the handset is likely to hit the markets in fall this year.
