The Leonids meteor shower to peak Tuesday night into Wednesday morning
The Leonids meteor shower peak is expected from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning. The meteor shower, which is already in progress, is expected to have 20 meteors per hour at the time of peak. The Leonids meteor shower will radiate from the Leo constellation present in the northeastern part of the sky.
Experts have predicted great viewing conditions this time as the moon will set before midnight allowing people to clearly see the meteor shower. But experts said weather could be bit troubling.
The Leonids meteor shower is quite fast. They strike earth’s atmosphere at the speed of 158,000 mph, which is considered to be fastest when compared with other meteor showers. Earthsky.org has a suggestion to make that the best time to view the meteor shower is between midnight and dawn.
The Leonids meteor shower parent comet is 55P/Tempel-Tuttle that passes through the inner solar system. As it passes, it lays out fresh debris in the path of earth’s orbit after every 33 years. Experts have affirmed that the Leonids have put the maximum impressive shows till date. And, as said above this year also the meteors are expected to have enhanced activity.
As per experts, the Leonids storm of 1833 was the most intense meteor storm to date. In 1966 also, the Leonids have put up one of the best shows of all time.
