“Khoya Khoya Chand Is My First Solo Film As An Actor,” Says Soha

Soha Ali KhanSoha Ali Khan opened her heart to tell few secrets of her.

Soha smiled when she was asked what it is being like Soha. “It is a lot of fun. I am sincere, quite ambitious and an easy-going person.”

Do you wish you were more like her?
“She had her own style, which was fabulous. But the thing that makes me most jealous of her professionally is that she got to work with Satyajit Ray…something I’ll never get to do.”

The spirited actress said, “I grew up in a protected environment, but I am no namby-pamby. I am an independent woman doing my own thing. I live alone, am financially independent and make my own decisions.”

Soha also reveals it wasn’t easy for her to head into films after obtaining a Masters from the London School of Economics. “My parents wanted me to enter a secure arena and not films, as they felt being the youngest, I should opt for a safer career option. So I did some work outside before stepping into films.”

“I am very careful about the way I conduct myself as I have to live up to my family legacy,” she says.

Still Soha attributes her introvert nature to her father, “I think I have picked up his temperament. We are both very restrained and like to deal with issues internally. I like to avoid confrontation and play the pacifier’s role, but if it’s an issue that I need to take a stand on, I put my foot down firmly. Whereas from my mother, apart from her passion for cinema, I have imbibed her fondness for reading and solving crosswords. At times, in between shots, I try my hands at it.”

How she finds herself with brother Said?
“He’s both a friend and brother to me. After coming to Mumbai, we got closer and the relationship has grown stronger. He’s always there for me and, on his part, he does not mind asking me for advice once in a while.”

Soha is very excited about her latest release, she says, “Khoya Khoya Chand is my first solo film as an actor. The range and depth of my role in the film is something you don't get to portray every other day.”

After three years in the industry, what does she bring to her films?
“A willingness to work and learn”

When asked about cricket, she says, “I like watching cricket, but I prefer playing tennis and badminton.”

What attracts cricketers and film stars to each other?
“Cricket and films are almost religion in this country and professionals in these fields get a great deal of respect. However, the pressure to live up to public expectations is high in both cases, so they tend to gravitate towards each other as they are like-minded and know what it is being them.”

Meanwhile, Sudhir Mishra’s Khoya Khoya Chand, with its plot set in the 1950s, opened to a mixed response from audiences.

The film, a tale of politics, corruption and exploitation of women in the film industry of that time, narrates the love story of a writer-turned-director and a junior actress who is catapulted to stardom.

Khoya Khoya Chand released on Friday with Soha Ali Khan, Shiney Ahuja and Rajat Kapoor playing the lead roles.
