Key allies still hopeful of bringing Congress around

New Delhi/Patna/Lucknow/Chennai, Mar 19: Key allies of the Congress party are continuing with their hectic negotiations to narrow down their differences over seat-sharing ahead of general elections.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president and Railway Minister Lalu Yadav, a key player in Bihar, underplayed the rift with the Congress.

"Less seats given, more seats given, internal differences, all these are immaterial. The UPA will form the Central Government. We have nothing to do with the Third Front. And Mulayam Singh is also with me. Mulayam Singh, Ram Vilas Paswan and Lalu Prasad, we will together be in the UPA Government formation," said Lalu.

Meanwhile, Rabri Devi, Lalu''s wife, has said there are no issues with the Congress over her estranged brother Sadhu Yadav.

Sadhu Yadav, an RJD leader, is unhappy over the Betiya seat being allotted to the LJP, which he wanted to contest.

"There is no need to talk to anybody. Before every elections, people rebel and defect, not just in RJD, but in other parties. So, there is no reason to talk, whoever wants to leave can leave," said Rabri in Patna.

Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav also hoped to resolve his differences with the Congress.

"The Congress is unhappy with our 17 seats and is satisfied with three seats given by Lalu. Bihar had 42 seats, out of which 12 have gone to Jharkhand and the Congress is getting only three of them. Mulayam Singh is giving 17 out of
80," Yadav said in Lucknow.

Down south, V. Gopalaswamy or ''Vaiko'', a member of the Third Front, said the plight of Sri Lankan Tamils would be the main issue in the forthcoming polls.

"In this elections, for the first time Sri Lankan issue will play the main role like never before. The Central Government has betrayed Tamils, so we cannot neglect this issue," said Vaiko, General Secretary of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK). (ANI)
