Special CBI Judge O P Saini announced to put Desai under 6 days judicial custody. He was suspected by the court for his assets which does not match with his sources of income. The judge has sent Desai to jail till July 26.

Ketan Desai was arrested by CBI on corruption charges when he was found guilty of taking bribe for granting sanction to a private medical college in Punjab and was granted bail on June 22 in this case, but caught again in a fresh case of possessing assets more than its income.

CBI was supposed to submit an investigation report against Ketan Desai within 60 days but they fail to do so and consequently Desai was granted bail.

Recently in May, a DA case was filed against Desai, his wife and his mother by CBI for possessing assets worth Rs 24 crore.

CBI had arrested Desai and three other people on April 22 for taking bribe of Rs 2 crore from Gyan Sagar Medical College, Patiala for granting sanction to begin its fresh batch of students.

In this case, court has granted bail to the people who were involved in the scam namely, Sukhwinder Singh, owner of Gyan Sagar medical College, to Kanwaljit Singh, one of the professors of the college and J. P. Singh.
