J&K to have country's first bio-plastic plant
The state government has taken a lead in moving a step forward in replacing plastics from Indian markets with biodegradable plastic, which is 100 per cent compositeable.
In a first in India, a factory is being established here which will produce 900 metric ton bio-plastic material in one year and will export it to other states.
Bio-plastic is made up of starch and cotton seeds which get decomposed in soil within three to four months without changing the nature and characteristics of soil.
The bio-plastic plant is being established by the J&K Agro-Industries Development Corporation and Earthsoul India Private Limited.
J&K Agro managing director GN Qasba said, "Bank of Rajasthan and J&K Bank is financing this project and we hope that within one and a half month, we might come up with the plant. In future we hope that we will export bio plastic to outside India as well."
