J&K Government is setting up major inter-regional highways
Jammu and Kashmir Government has announced to construct eight major inter-regional highways and inter-district roads in the state. It has been expected that the objective of such projects is to improve road connectivity in the state. The cost of the project has been estimated to Rs 2921 crore. The entire project comes under the Prime Minister's Reconstruction Program (PMRP).
According to the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Ministry, the there will be eight major inter-district roads and inter-regional highways to be constructed under the scheme of the Central government. This will strengthen the communication lines in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Ministry has also informed that the constructions of three major roads are in progress under the PMPR scheme by the state government. The cost of the project is around Rs 865.85 crore.
The construction of the remaining five roads has also been started by Border Road Organization (BRO) under central sector. The estimated costs of these roads are around Rs 2056.03 crore. It has also informed that the construction of these roads is expected to be completed by March 2011.
