Injured Paes opts to pull out of Davis Cup

Leander PaesIndian Davis Cup team faced a major blow as Indian tennis star Leander Paes has ruled himself out of the World Group play-off tie against South Africa due to shoulder and elbow injuries.

Paes received these injuries in the recently concluded US Open. Paes had clinched the title of men's doubles event with his Czech partner Lukas Dlouhy while he and Zimbabwean Cara Black finished as runner-up in the mixed doubles event of US Open.

Paes was advised to take rest of two weeks by doctors in New York after scan of his shoulder on the very next day of the 10th Grand Slam title win in the US Open. Paes-Dlouhy had defeated India's Mahesh Bhupathi and Bahamian Mark Knowles in the final of men's doubles event.

Paes expressed confidence in the youngsters saying that he is disappointed to not to make himself available for Davis Cup tie and Indian team includes talented boys to still emerge victorious in this tie.

Meanwhile, Rohan Bopanna and Mahesh Bhupathi are likely to pair up in the men's doubles event. Indian teenage sensation Yuki Bhambhri could also be capped in the Davis Cup tie.
