Indian shuttlers win five gold medals at SAG

11th-South-Asian-GamesIndian shuttlers have won five gold and five silver medals as India continued to dominate at the 11th South Asian Games. The country bagged 12 gold medals out of 13 on the seventh day in Dhaka.

Chetan Anand clinched gold medal in the men's singles event while Sayali Gokhale won the title in the women's single event. In men's double event, Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas bagged gold medal.

Aparna Balan and Shruti Kurien won women's doubles final to add another gold medal in the Indian kitty while Valiyaveetil Diju and Ashwini Ponnappa clinched gold medal in the mixed doubles at the Wooden Floor Gymnasium courts.

Anand ousted RMV Guru Sai Dutt 21-16, 21-8 in the title round in just 30 minutes while Rupesh-Thomas duo were adjudged winner after Anand-Valiyaveetil Diju opted to withdraw from the match due to injury.

Aparna-Shruti Sanave thrashed P C Thulasi and Ashwini Ponnappa 21-19, 22-20 in 35 minutes in the women's doubles final. In mixed doubles final, Ashwini-Diju defeated Sanave Thomas and Aparna Balan 21-11, 21-15 in 26 minutes.
