Indian passenger car capacity crosses 3 million

Passenger-carThere is no denying to the fact that the Indian passenger car industry has been on a roll for the past few years now, all thanks to the rising consumer demand and the level of disposable income.

In fact, keeping in mind the fresh capacities that have gone on stream recently, the country's installed passenger vehicle manufacturing capacity that includes SUVs and MPVs as of today stands at the three million mark and is very much close to cross the 3.5 million mark now. R. C. Bhargava, Chairman, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd said that the trend is testimonial to the fact that all the players in the automobile industry are very much confident of the potential of the Indian automotive market.

It is to be mentioned here that the industry produced around 2,351,240 passenger vehicles in the last fiscal filing a 28 per cent increase over the previous year.

Moreover, the industry sold 2,395,922 units in the same period, including 446,146 units exported, filing a 27-per cent increase over the previous year's figures.

Bhargava further pointed out the fact that going forward; the industry will have to add more capacities in times to come as the demand is expected to rise by leaps and bounds in the coming times.
