Indian actor Jiiva backs Earth Hour campaignActor Jiiva has pledged his support for the Earth Hour, which is a global campaign by the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) aimed at raising awareness and inspire individual action on climate change.

While addressing the media he said, "I believe in the power of individual action. The campaign, I am sure, will inspire millions to become aware of their responsibility towards the environment. It is only when individuals make concerted efforts, they add up to something substantial."

This year's Earth Hour will be observed from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm on March 23. The campaign urges people to switch off lights every year for an hour to display commitment for a better environment. The lights at the popular monuments in the country including Rashtrapati Bhavan, India Gate, Mysore Palace and Gateway of India were turned off to show support for the campaign.

This will be the fifth year for the campaign in the country and it has since covered 150 cities. Aarti Khosla, the Head for campaigns at WWF India that the team is aiming to expand the campaignto even more cities in the country.

The campaign will encourage individuals to adopt renewable energy powers devices, promote renewable energy solutions for organisations and urge the government to formulate more eco-friendly polices for promoting the wider adoption of renewable energy in India.
