India wins opening match at WJL
Indian volleyball team has started their campaign on winning note on the first day of the 2009 FIVB World men's junior volleyball league phase. India defeated Tunisia 25-11, 25-15, 25-13 in their opening match at the Balewadi Sports Complex in Mumbai on Friday.
The no 1 ranked Tunisian volleyball team was not able to perform according to their reputation. Mandeep Singh (205cm), Somnath Sangamanath (204), Najit Singh (205) and Gurinder Singh (195) gave an edge to Indian team in terms of physical appearance.
Tunisian coach Karray Hadi was surprised by the brilliant performance of Indian team in the nets.
He admitted that Indian team played well in the match and their team has lost match against a better team.
Indian will now lock horns with Belarus on Saturday and with the United States on Sunday in their next matches of Pool A.
In other matches on Friday, Brazil upset the defending champion Russia 3-1 while Iran outplayed Belgium in their respective league matches.
