India rules the top slot at CYG on the Fourth Day

On Wednesday, Asher Noria, the double trap shooter stole the show adding on to the excellent performance by Indian athletes currently on the lead on the fourth day of third Commonwealth Youth Games being held at Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex at Balewadi in Pune.

Shooting seemed to be the India’s expertise with 3 gold and one bronze in a day. It was Noria however who was in the limelight as he performed better than Athens silver medalist Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore's score by one bird. The 16-year-old shot a total of 180 en route leading to the top spot while his nearest rival Philip Smith ended with eight birds behind.

Noria started shooting four years ago under his father’s guidance Gusti Jall Noria, a former national double trap specialist. After winning gold at Singapore Open, this becomes his second win at international front. The shooter who is confident and excited about his win said, "I am not getting weighed down with the inevitable comparison with him (Rathore) but it will only inspire me to do better in near future."

India is currently on the top with 35 medals (18 gold, 10 silver, 7 bronze) followed by Australia bearing to their unbeatable performance in swimming with 25 medals(11 gold, 5 silver, 9 bronze). While England was at the third position with 18 medals(9 gold,5 silver, 4 broze) Canada rested at fourth spot with 13 medals(2 gold, 7 silver, 4 bronze).

The wrestlers bagged three golds while weightlifters won one gold and one bronze. On swimming front the nation earned one gold and two silvers while in table tennis, India got one gold and one silver. There are chances to have more medals from Table tennis as the men’s doubles are highly awaited.
