India loses to New Zealand
New Zealand has registered their maiden victory in the Emerging Players Tournament as they defeated India by five wickets in a twenty20 match after top order collapse of Indian batting attack at the Albury Oval in Brisbane on Monday.
India made 154 runs for five wickets in 20 overs after New Zealand won the toss and invited India to bat first. Manoj Tiwary scored unbeaten 51 runs to mend the early damage by Kiwis bowler with Bengal batsman Abhishek Nayar (45). Canterbury's fast bowler Hamish Bennett claimed 3 wickets for 20 runs.
New Zealand did not face any difficulty to reach at the target of 155 and Auckland's Colin de Grandhomme scored 60 to lead his team to win with one over to spare.
The right-arm off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin picked up three wickets for 22 from his four overs while Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Amit Mishra chipped in with one wicket each.
Earlier on 20th July, India lost their first T20 match of the tournament against Australian Institute of Sports.
