India clinches the No.1 ranking in Test Cricket after a thriller at Kolkata

India-Still-No-1Indians have a reason to cheer and we have yet another example of the amazing game of cricket, especially test cricket. No one imagined at the time of tea that the match would go to the second last over of the day as South Africa was struggling with only three wickets in hand to save the defeat by an inning. And Ishant Sharma made it easier for the hosts by taking two wickets after tea.

The last South African pair had to spent 23 more overs to save the test match and they almost did it with the historic performance of Hashim Amla but Harbhajan Singh with a splendid dusara made it to India with 9 balls to spare.

India beat the visitors by an inning and 58 runs on the fifth day of the last test match at Kolkata. South Africa was bowled out at 290 runs in their second inning in the second last over of the day. Hashim Amla made an outstanding inning of unbeaten 127 runs but in vain. Harbhajan Singh took five wickets in the second inning of South Africa and Amit Mishra and Ishant Sharma gave the brilliant support to the off spinner by taking 3 and 2 wickets respectively.

With this win, India not only leveled the series but also regain the No. 1 spot in the ICC test rankings which they lost to South Africa after losing the first test match of the series.
