India bat to position of strength
Team India has accumulated a healthy lead of 135 runs by the lunch on 3rd day of test match in Kolkata. India at stumps on the 2nd day was at 342 for the loss of five wickets.
The last match of two match series was intriguingly poised after the second day's play here at Eden Gardens although India with a 1st innings' lead of 46 is positioned better.
On the second day a disciple Virender Sehwag (165) and his idol Sachin Tendulkar (106) took the attack to the opposition with a record partnership of 249 runs for the third wicket as they want to square the series; however India lost late wickets on Monday.
This is century number 47 for the little master and 19th for the unorthodox smasher from Najafgarh. India earlier dismissed the proteas for 296 runs, as a rejuvenated Indian side rip apart the south African batting line up in the last session on the opening day at Eden gardens.
India would like to build up on the lead and accumulate a sizeable lead over the visitors so as to exploit the conditions at Eden garden pitch which is showing signs of wear & tear, with Harbhajan & Mishra as two quality spinners in Indian line up team India have the upper hand in the last match of the series. India has to win this match to retain the numero uno position for the test team in the world.
