India assures over security for the upcoming Hockey World CupThe England Hockey Board has decided today that England will take part in the forthcoming World Cup in Delhi despite the recent security threats against the tournament. While Indian officials have reassured foreign teams that they will provide enough security in the hockey World Cup in Delhi scheduled in February and there is nothing to worry about the security in the tournament.

Indian government said that it will deploy an additional 1200 paramilitary officers including 200 sharpshooters for the security of the hockey World Cup. Delhi Police is considering the security of the tournament a crucial test of Delhi's preparedness before the Commonwealth Games which has to be held in October 2010. India's home ministry also assured the teams about security after a meeting with the Delhi Police Commissioner over the issue.

"The arrangements for the World Cup are foolproof," Delhi police spokesman Rajan Bhagat told reporters.

There were many security threats given by the militant groups to the international players not to participate in any sporting events held in India. Recently Ilyas Kashmiri, head of a militant group, issued a direct threat to Commonwealth Games athletes and hockey playing nations saying them not to go to India in an email sent to a Pakistan based journalist of the Asia Times website after Saturday's terror strike on the Indian city of Pune.
