India advances to semifinals

ICC Women's T20 World CupIndian women team has advanced to the semifinals of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup after defeating Sri Lanka by five wickets at Taunton on Monday night.

In a rain-interrupted match, Sri Lankan skipper P Kumarihami won the toss and elected to bat first against India. Sri Lankan batswomen struggled against Indian bowling attack and lost their three wickets for just 16 runs on the board.

Sri Lankan team scored 94 runs for the loss of six wickets in 18 overs and H Rasanika (24 not out) was only batswoman who showed some resistance against Indian bowling attack.

Indian fast bowler R Dhar bowled a super spell of four overs in which she took two wickets and she gave only 4 runs while G Sultana also took two wickets for 22 runs in her four overs.

Indian team chased the target of 95 runs in 16.5 overs with the help unbeaten 32 runs by former Indian skipper Mithali Raj.

Mithali Raj was declared woman of the match for her brilliant inning of 32 runs.
