India 3G auctions to start from April 9

India 3G auctions to start from April 9Indian government's much awaited bandwidth auction of 3G wireless mobile spectrum is expected to be held on April 9, 2010.

Acquisitions will be done for the 20 out of 22 telecom zones and per zone 4 slots will be awarded except for zones like Delhi and Gujarat. These areas have scarcity of spectrums.

Government expects to have a high level bid due to high competition and scarcity of spectrum in the growing mobile market.

It also expects that the revenue generated from the 3G-auction (of 3G wireless mobile spectrum) will help it to address the fiscal deficit.

It is expected that the delay in the auctioning is expected to raise the deficit of the government for the fiscal (year) 2009.

Government will be inviting applications from February 25, 2010 from the bidders.

The deadline will be with the deadline of March 19, 2010.

Auctioning for the broadband wireless service will take place two days after the completion of 3G auction.
