Illinois-based Aspen Foods recalls 2 million Pounds of Chicken over Salmonella Concerns

Aspen Foods, part of Chicago-based Koch Poultry Co., is recalling frozen, raw, stuffed and breaded chicken sold under different brands due to salmonella illnesses. It is being said that the chicken may be contaminated with salmonella enteritidis, a common form of salmonella bacteria that can cause severe illness.

On Thursday, the US Department of Agriculture has announced the recall. As per Daily Mail, the authorities concerned have said about a link between the company's products and three people infected with salmonella in Minnesota.

Aspen Foods products are shipped across the nation and include a USDA inspection mark. In June, the department officials started investigating the illnesses, which happened in May and June in Minnesota and were found to be having a link with the recalled chicken.

The recalled chicken has been produced between April 15 and July 10. Details carried by their products include, 'best if used by' dates between July 14, 2016 and October 10, 2016. The USDA mark of inspection bears the number, 'P-1358'.

Recalled brands include Acclaim, Antioch Farms, Buckley Farms, Centrella Signature, Roundy's, Safeway Kitchens, Schwan's, Shaner's, Spartan, Chestnut Farms, Family Favorites, Kirkwood, Koch Foods, Rosebud Farm, Market Day, Oven Cravers, Rose and Sysco.

By having food contaminated with salmonella, person can suffer from fever, diarrhea and abdominal cramps. Its symptoms can last from four to seven days. Pregnant women, elderly and people having weak immune system are at maximum risk of becoming severely ill from the bacteria.
