I will accept Musharraf as President if SC, people do: Benazir
Lahore, Sep 28 : Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chief Benazir Bhutto has said that she would accept General Pervez Musharraf as President if the Supreme Court passed a verdict in his favour, and he is re-elected.
Bhutto said that it is for the people of Pakistan to determine who would be President and Prime Minister of the country.
"I will accept the verdict of the court, and I will accept the verdict of the people of Pakistan," she told CNN.
Bhutto claimed that she would be a more effective ally in the US "war on terror" because her party had a support base among the people, and she would take certain reforms in the tribal regions of Pakistan bordering Afghanistan.
Bhutto said she would like to extend the Political Parties Act into the tribal areas, and added that the PPP would empower the people of the tribal areas, and seek their support in dismantling the militant networks if it came to power.
"We have fought with drug lords of tribal areas in the past who had unofficial armies of their own, but we succeeded because the people supported us," she said.
Bhutto said that she is confident that with the support of tribesmen, she could root out cross-border terrorism from the tribal areas in 12 to 18 months, the Daily Times reported. (With inputs from ANI)
