Elon Musk surely knows how to get things done from governments across the world. There is a reason that he has become the richest person in the world many times and he has managed to get things done his way in United States, Germany, Australia and possibly in India in the near future. After meeting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Musk said that he is a fan of Modi. Elon Musk wants to launch Tesla in India and he surely wants Indian government to offer him additional incentives.

PM Modi is trying to project himself as popular and respected leader worldwide and he has Indian media on his side. Every time Modi goes out of the country on an official visit, the Indian media turns into cheerleaders. They only talk about how warmly Modi was welcomed. It is another thing if Modi actually gets investments and pacts signed. Of course, a business delegation visits along with the Indian Prime Minister. The investments on ground usually get delayed. We have noticed that in many projects.

The aim of this article is not to criticize Modi. He is much better than the previous Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in his outreach and projecting India as an investment destination. Probably, the lack is on the side of bureaucracy to deal with the issues and approve investments (or freebies to be given to attract business).

Elon Musk is planning to launch Tesla in India. His plans have been delayed many times and for years, Indian have been hearing the Tesla will be coming soon. How soon, no one knows. Musk is probably looking for incentives from Indian government. Praising Modi before the elections in India, will surely help. We have seen how much PM Modi likes to be in the news and support from Musk, will be surely a big talk in Indian media. It is yet to be seen if Indian government will roll out a red carpet for Tesla Motors.

Musk has been dealing with governments across the world. And, he is bold. He doesn’t care what people would think about him. His company doesn’t spend any money on marketing. He has been using Twitter to market his ventures. And, he has been very successful. Only issue is that he had to buy Twitter just because he started a stupid conversation about freeing it up. That 44 billion dollar bet on Twitter has caused a lot of trouble for Musk but he is probably already recovering from that setback. He has changed Twitter, for better or worse, but he has changed it.

Musk has managed to setup gigafactory in Berlin with incentives from German government. He has managed to move forward even as environmentalists were trying to thwart his plans. It is yet to be seen in which price range Tesla vehicles will be launched in India. If Tesla doesn’t manufacture locally, it could be in for a shock. Indian government usually takes a long time to change policies. The approval speed is surely faster under Modi but we will see how things move forward.

PM Modi is good with negotiations. He knows what is at stake. He can project himself stronger in eyes of Indian youth if he can get Tesla Motors in India before the next elections. Even if Tesla make a formal announcement, it would be enough for Modi to use it for his benefit in the elections. Opposition has blamed Modi for being in election mode all the time. He has shown a strong track record of winning elections.

Indians are eagerly waiting for Tesla cars. After the meeting between Modi and Musk, we are surely expect that there will be progress in the right direction.
