Hydroxycut products to be recalled
Morgan & Morgan has recalled Hydroxycut products as a precautionary measure. The recall was issued after various reports of liver problems were received by FDA.
The Food and Drug Administration claims that it has received 23 reports of liver problems, including the death of a 19-year-old boy in 2007. FDA has urged people to immediately stop the use of Hydroxycut products.
Hydroxycut is advertised as made from natural ingredients. According to data of FDA at least nine million packages were sold last year.
People suffered from jaundice, elevated liver enzymes, and liver damage. Some patients had such a serious liver damage that a liver transplant was needed. Drug maker Iovate Health Sciences of Oakville, Ontario says the number of reported problems is small relative to the many millions of people who have used Hydroxycut products.
The company added that it's issued a voluntary recall because consumer safety is its top priority. Health Canada could not immediately provide information about Hydroxycut products in the country.
