Huge cache of ammunition recovered in PoonchPoonch (J-K) June 3 : In a joint para military-police operation, a huge cache of ammunitions including explosives was recovered in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip off, the Poonch police in coordination with the personnel of the 39 Rashtriya Rifles, a paramilitary force deployed in Kashmir, launched a search operation and the hideout was busted.

The haul comprised of 80 rounds used in AK-47 rifles, 11 UBGL grenades, one kilogram of Improvised Explosive Device (IED), Chinese grenades (one small, two medium and three large), a Chinese pistol besides huge cache of assorted ammunition.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Poonch, Javed Iqbal Mir said that with the seizure a major terrorist design has been once again thwarted.

"The RDX recovered by us could have been used by the militants for carrying out anti-national activities. But the timely recovery by the police and the army has destroyed the nefarious designs of the militants," he added.

This is the second seizure within a week on Sunday, the Rashtriya Rifles had busted another hideout in the Poonch region. (ANI)
