Honda could return to F1 in some guise in 2009

Honda could return to F1 in some guise in 2009Geneva - The former Honda Formula One team could make a return in the 2009 season in some guise, it emerged Thursday.

Chief Executive Nick Fry confirmed at the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA) meeting in Geneva that an announcement either way would be made very soon.

"I can't say any more at this stage," said Fry.

Honda pulled out of F1 in December, citing the global economic crisis, but it is now expected to announce Friday that the team will continue in existence as Brawn Racing after Honda boss Ross Brawn, together with other employees, reportedly organised a management buy- out.

Fry admitted that the team would not be able to survive without the support of FOTA and the newly implemented cost-cutting measures for 2009.

The car is reportedly ready for the season-opening Australian Grand Prix on March 29 with Mercedes delivering the engines and Jenson Button and Brazilian Rubens Barrichello the driver pairing. (dpa)
