Hillary Clinton provides Emails to US State Department from her Time as Secretary of State

New York Times reported that Hillary Clinton had used a personal email address to carry out government business during her four-year tenure as Secretary of State. She might possibly have violated requirements that her emails should be saved.

On Monday, the US State Department announced that it has been provided with emails from the time when Hillary was Secretary of State. The Times reported that her aides also did not take steps to save her emails on government servers as required by federal law.

According to The NY Times report, "Clinton did not have a government email address during her four-year tenure at the State Department. Her aides took no actions to have her personal emails preserved on department servers at the time, as required by the Federal Records Act".

State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf was of the view that last year, they requested for the records from Clinton and also from other former secretaries. Harf said that in the response, Secretary Clinton has provided the emails of her time at the department.

After going through those emails, the State Department has come up with around 300 of the correspondences for a House committee, which has been investigating the attack on the American Consulate in Benghazi, Libya and Hillary's communication with regard to the attack.

Harf did not affirm on whether or not Clinton has used only personal email id to carry out business as secretary of state. Harf has also not confirmed on whether or not Clinton has provided all the government business emails that were sent or received on her personal email.

The incident acted as a perfect opportunity to raise question on Clinton. Jeb Bush, a contender for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, affirmed that transparency does matter. As per him, unclassified emails should be released.
