Have A 'Magic Pill' & Live Beyond 100
Researchers are making attempts to make a "magic pill", which would permit individuals to remain in a healthy condition and live more than 100 years.
They have discovered genes, which increase the total life span of a person and stop illnesses like Alzheimer's, diabetes and cancer.
Prof. Nir Barzilai, an investigator into the ageing process, told experts that the new medication in the development stage will hit the worldwide markets by the next 18 months.
One main element seen in individuals who reach 100 is high levels of "good" cholesterol high density lipo-protein (HDL).
Prof. Barzilai, from New York's Albert Einstein College of Medicine, discovered that senior citizens who had this were protected against Alzheimer's disease.
"Global pharmaceutical companies Merck and Roche are developing a drug which will promote the increase in HDL," Prof. Nir added.
The medication will be beneficial if it taken in 40s or 50s.
Though talking on other perspectives, Prof. Nir also said, "There will be issues, such as pensions and social security, but from a medical perspective it's better to stay healthy". (With Inputs from Agencies)
