Priyanka, a resident of Nandini Layout, made a futile attempt to prevent her separated lover Anand, 27, a building contractor, from marrying to another girl at a wedding hall in Rajajinagar on Friday morning

The 23-year-old girl also claimed that they have been in a relationship for the past 4 years.

Moreover, the girl also claimed that she was pregnant with the groom's child.

According to Priyanka, when she asked Anand to get married, he told her that his family members required a fat dowry, which her family would not be capable of giving.

However, the main reason was that Ashok's family was against their marriage as Priyanka belonged to a different caste.

Afterward, Anand's marriage got fixed with another girl, Tirumala of Jayanagar.

Priyanka opposed this, and even lodged a complaint against Anand, with the Nandini Layout police on October 30, saying that he cheated her after committing to tie the knot.

But, the police denied saying the wedding cannot be stopped according to law.

On wedding day, Priyanka, together with her family, entered into the marriage hall and tried to stop the wedding.

Anand's parents dragged the girl away, and a quarrel started between the groups even as invitees remained silent watchers. Priyanka's sister, Teja suffered small injuries during the clash.

Priyanka, who was beaten up and thrown out of the hall, went to the Rajajinagar police station to file a complaint against Anand's family.

Priyanka also met police commissioner Shankar Bidari to give her version of the story.

Mr. Bidari said, "Sensing trouble, the marriage time was advanced by Anand's family. As per law we could not stop the marriage."

"However, in view of Priyanka's statement that she is three-month pregnant with Anand's child, we are investigating into the case and will take suitable action as per law."
