Gilani condemns Taliban’s brutal act of flogging teenage girlIslamabad, Apr. 3 : Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has strongly condemned the Taliban's barbaric act of publicly flogging a teenage girl.

Reacting to wide scale public anger over the issue, Gilani said every step would take to ensure that such inhuman act is not repeated again.

"We'll make sure such incidents do not happen again in future," Gilani told media persons.

The Taliban's unchallenged writ was witnessed again as a two minute mobile video showed a teenage girl being whipped continuously by some Taliban fighters for venturing out of her house without her male companion in Matta District located in the Swat Valley.

The video showed two men holding the girl's arms and feet, while a third one thrashed her continuously.

The girl whimpered in pain, and urged them to stop the treatment.

"Either kill me or stop it now," her trembling voice was heard on and off during the whole episode.

The girl was whipped 34 times.

The Taliban also confirmed the report, terming the girl's act `Un-Islamic'

"She came out of her house with another guy who was not her husband, so we must punish her. There are boundaries you cannot cross," Taliban spokesperson Muslim Khan said over the telephone.

Khan said the Taliban also has the right to thrash inappropriately dressed women shoppers.

The incident has proved that there is no rule of law in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) of Pakistan, and the peace deal between the government and the Taliban has only made the outfit stronger by offering them an opportunity to reign in their unchallenged decree. (ANI)
