Giant vending machine act as village shop
A person in Derbyshire has developed a giant vending machine to help villagers who have lost their village shop to giant supermarkets and internet shopping.
The new vending machine will offer range of essentials including milk and eggs, toiletries, tins of soup and several other articles. The vending machine has a robotic arm that carefully lifts the selected items and places them in a robotic tray. Customers will be able to pay for the products through cash or credit card.
The vending also comes with numerous security features in order to prevent theft. The vending machine also automatically sends an email to the designer when the stock level is lower. The vending machine is located in the car park of the village pub and many believe that the idea will be a success in the village.
Commercial pressures from supermarkets and online shopping have caused many small village shops out of business in recent years. According to estimates, a total of about 400 local stores in the UK closed down in 2010. Small shops are finding it difficult to compete with the giant supermarkets that offer heavy discounts on articles.
