Germany increases aid to Afghanistan
Berlin - Germany is to increase aid to Afghanistan by 30 million euros (43 million dollars), Development Aid Minister Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul announced in Berlin Monday during a visit by Afghan Foreign Minister Rangin Dadfar-Spanta.
Germany has now committed a total of 170 million euros over the course of 2008, with 100 million coming from the Development Ministry.
The additional aid is aimed at countering a food crisis, exacerbated by drought and rising world food prices. (dpa)
