General Motors shows 6.4 percent sales rise in April
Sales rose 6.4 percent overall in April from March, but four brands saw 19.7 percent increases, U. S. automotive giant General Motors Co. said on Monday.
According to GM, total vehicles sales were at 183,091 for the month. Sales are sharply higher for Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac, four brands that have seen sales jump 31 percent from year-to-date this year compared to last.
The New York Times reported on Monday that Ford Motor Co., said sales rose about 25 percent in April compared to April 2009, the fifth consecutive month with sales 20 percent or more above 12 months earlier.
Its sales rose 24 percent in April from a year ago, Toyota has said.
For GM, overall sales a year earlier included Saab, Pontiac, Saturn and Hummer sales, four brands that have been sold or terminated.
It was further reported by GM that its' product-launches are selling fast. New launches of the Chevrolet Camaro, Chevrolet Equinox, Buick LaCrosse, GMC Terrain and Cadillac SRX reached 110,176.
Steve Carlisle, vice president of U. S. sales operations, said, "Clearly, our new-launch vehicles are hitting the mark."
Larger vehicle sales also increased. The Chevrolet Silverado, Avalanche and GMC Sierra rose a combined 20 percent for April.
The report further revealed that among GM's four brands, Buick sales rose 36 percent during the month, GMC sales increased 18 percent; Chevrolet sales were up 17 percent and Cadillac sales climbed 36 percent. (With Inputs from Agencies)
