Madrid  - Diego Forlan is all set to extend his contract at Atletico Madrid, according to sports papers AS and Marca on Thursday.

The current contract of Forlan runs until 2011. Atletico are planning to extend it until 2013, and to increase his salary. It was rumoured this summer that European champions Barcelona were interested in him, but in the end he stayed in Madrid.

Forlan, 30, was top scorer in La Liga last season, something that he also achieved in 2005 when playing for Villarreal.

On Wednesday Forlan, 30, helped Uruguay to beat Colombia 3-1 and thus to stay on course to qualify for the 2010 World Cup finals. (dpa)
