Food Security bill likely to be delayed
Under a major announcement that has caught the public eye, the proposed Food Security bill is likely to be delayed and is expected that it will not see the light before the Parliament's winter session.
According to the market watchers, there are two issues - the first being the divergence among the government and NAC over the non-availability of the legal guarantee to the non-BPL families living in the country and food availability to sustain provisions of the legislation. It is to be mentioned here that organizations like Planning Commission and ministries of Food and Public Distribution, Women and Child Development and Housing and Urban Poverty have already heard to the difference in views from the two parties.
In fact, a source in the NAC said that the divergence is getting less by the day and the government can surely do more to procure food grains that will ensure a proper legislation in the country.
Moreover, the source also mentioned the fact that there is still some divergence over the guarantee to the non-BPL families. Perhaps the Indian consumer will have to wait much longer before the bill comes into existence.
