Felipe Calderon to make state visit to Britain before G20 summit
Mexico City - Mexican President Felipe Calderon is to meet with Queen Elizabeth II, Prime Minister Gordon Brown and several British politicians and legislators during a state visit to Britain prior to the G20 summit next week in London.
"President Calderon will have an intense work agenda which includes meetings with the most relevant actors in political life of the United Kingdom," the Mexican president's office said Wednesday in a statement.
The visit is to be the first to Britain by a Mexican president since 1985, spanning March 29 to April 1 in the run-up to the summit.
"The state visit by the Mexican president will take place at a time when bilateral relations between both countries are in profound consolidation, as a result of the constant political dialogue and the numerous bilateral contacts and meetings at various levels," the Mexican president's office said.
In Britain, Mexico will seek to promote itself as a "trustworthy and safe" place for foreign investment and a strategic partner in trade and cooperation, as well as a key reference in dialogue between the European Union and Latin America.
Calderon plans to address Parliament and meet the chief editors of major British newspapers and leaders of the financial sector. (dpa)
