Federation Backs Monika, Seeks Fresh Test
The lifter L. Monika Devi gained support from The Indian Weightlifting Federation on Wednesday. She was charged with allegations of doping by the Sports Authority of India (SAI). The sports body barred her to participate in the Beijing Olympic Games.
The Indian federation Secretary, Sq. Ldr. B.R. Gulati (retd) said that the allegation of SAI do not conform with the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) rules. He said that Monika can not be banned on these irregular charges.
Monika accused another lifter, Shailaja Pujari to manipulate the facts. She said that some people around her don’t want her to participate in Olympic Games. She added that she was underwent tests around 30 times but not tested positive. She asked SAI to send her Bejing and test there. She asked for life ban if she found positive.
According to the rules of International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), Monika has to present in Beijing on the morning of August 7 for final tests by WADA/IWF. The competition for 69 kg has been scheduled on August 13.
