Fed Cup draw released
The draw of the Fed Cup is released on Tuesday and India is placed in the Pool A of the Asia-Oceania Group-II along with Singapore and Malaysia.
India will start their campaign in the Fed Cup with match against Singapore on Thursday followed by Malaysia on Friday at the National Tennis Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
The winners of Pool A and Pool B will face each other in the play-off tie and the victorious team will be promoted to Group-I. India was demoted to Group-II last year after Indian women had gone down to Chinese Taipei 0-3.
India will be boosted with the return of tennis ace Sania Mirza in the squad as she had missed the tournament in 2009 due to injury. Sania will play in the women’s singles as well as doubles event.
Indian coach Enrico Piperno said that the weather in Kuala Lumpur is very hot and humid but this will not affect their players as the courts here are similar to the Indian courts.
India team for the Fed Cup includes Sania Mirza, Poojashree Venkatesha, Sanaa Bhambri, Rushmi Chakravarthi and Rohit Rajpal (captain).
