Dhaka  - An explosion and fire that tore through a hotel room injured about 500 people in central Dhaka, police and witnesses said Monday.

Fire brigade sources suspected the blast was caused by an explosion of a gas cylinder. The cause was being investigated.

The fire destroyed the top floors of the hotel. The injured included one Sri Lankan national who was staying at the hotel. (dpa)
