Ex-armyman arrested in Malegaon blast case

One Retired major Ramesh Upadhyay and printing press employee Sameer Kulkarni were arrested by Maharashtra anti-terrorism squad (ATS) for their suspected role in Malegaon blast on Tuesday.

They have been remanded to police custody till 3rd Nov.

According to sources, ATS has sought permission from the military to question another serving army man.

Upadhyay, a former intelligence wing officer of the army, had trained Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and her two associates. The other three were arrested last week in connection with the same case for their alleged role in making bombs.

Earlier, Upadhyaya was heading BJP's Mumbai unit of ex-servicemen's cell. Later, he was removed from the post.

"Upadhayay could not give satisfactory answers when we were corroborating his statement with those of the other accused. We suspect that he taught the arrested accused to assemble a bomb," told an ATS officer.

On the other hand, Kulkarni was the head of an NGO and a regular figure in the major Hindutva functions in Bhopal.
