EU still undecided over sending observers to monitor Pak polls
Islamabad, Dec 6: The European Union (EU) has not yet decided on sending election observers to Pakistan for the January 8 polls.
“The EU is taking time before announcing to monitor the elections, which opposition parties fear might be rigged,” the Daily Times quoted sources, as saying.
The 27-member EU was disturbed over the prevailing political situation and the state of emergency imposed by President Pervez Musharraf, they added.
Confirming that the EU has not yet decided to send observers to monitor polls, EU Ambassador Jan De Kok rejected a news report in Indian media that the group had decided not to send observers.
The sources further said that an EU team has arrived in Pakistan to assess the prevailing situation of the country. (ANI)
