EPFO Announces a 9.5% Surplus

EPFO Announces a 9.5% SurplusThe Employees’ Provident Fund Organization has stated good news of a 9.5% surplus. This will account for Rs 1,732 in the internet suspense account.

The surplus will act as a cushion for the EPFO to maintain the 8.5% return they’ve had in bad years. However, the finance ministry has ordered there to be a special audit to go over the accounts to make sure the surplus is ‘real’.

In the past fifty years of the EPFO’s existence, this is the first time there has been a surplus of money. EPFO is India’s biggest retirement fund and is considering offering the 9.5% return on PF deposits.

"The fact that the surplus in the interest account has turned out to be higher than what we had estimated will ensure that we will continue to have a comfortable fall back in case the interest rates announced by us this year or later turns out to be lower than what we earn," an EPFO official said.

The results were quite surprising since the accounts were pending to be updated for the past 25-30 years.

Recognition goes out to the company for having met their target and overall rates of claim settlement.
