Elderly patients win right to take legal action against improper service
Elderly patients in the UK have won the right to take legal actions against the health units that provide improper service to them.
The authorities will also introduce a ban on age discrimination in public services, such as health and social care on October to improve care for elder patients. Patients who now feel that they are being discriminated because of their age will have the option to sue health managers.
The elderly care has been affected by the shortage of medical staff in the UK. The shortage is affecting all aspects from basic communications to the medical care for the elderly people. Elderly pensioners are often mistreated in hospitals, as the staff does not speak to them with respect, they are denied privacy and best medical treatment.
Both the Patients Association and Care Quality Commission have published individual studies indicating shocking levels of care. Besides the availability issue, elderly patient often complain of being treated poorly. An alliance of politicians, regulators and charities is urging NHS nurses and care workers to sign a code of conduct that would guarantee dignity to the elderly patients, who receive treatment from the NHS hospitals
